Inverter AC PCB Error Codes & Troubleshooting Guide

Modern inverter air conditioners are sophisticated electronic machines. When the outdoor unit fails to turn on and the indoor display flashes an error code (like E1, F3, or H6), technicians must systematically test PCB components rather than guessing.

Understanding Inverter Communication Errors (Indoor-Outdoor Comms)

Usually displayed as E1 or C0. Caused by broken interconnecting signal wire, loose neutral, or blown optocoupler IC on the indoor or outdoor PCB. Test DC voltage between Neutral and Signal wire: it should fluctuate between 5V and 48V DC.

Testing the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) for Compressor Drive

If the compressor kicks for 3 seconds and stops with an overcurrent fault, test the 6 IGBT transistors inside the IPM using multimeter diode mode. Unequal diode drops between P/N terminals and U/V/W phases indicate a blown IPM module.

Sensor Resistance Testing (Room, Coil & Ambient Sensors)

A faulty 10K or 5K NTC thermistor reading infinity or zero ohms causes sudden compressor shutdown. Test thermistor resistance in a glass of ice water (should read ~30K) and at room temperature (should read exactly 10K or 5K).

BLDC Fan Motor Faults vs PCB Driver Failure

Modern outdoor units use 310V DC brushless fan motors. Verify the 310V DC high voltage, 15V Vcc supply, and 0-5V speed control voltage before condemning the fan motor or PCB.
